In this discussion, we hope to decide whether or not to merge the Butterfly Master and Gamer articles. As it is currently, Gamer is a separate article as it was believed to be a separate character/entity. However, new translations of the original Japanese dialogue suggests that the Butterfly Master and Gamer are the same individual. With the vagueness of the English translation, it is also a possibility that "Gamer" is the name of the system used by the Butterfly Master.
We only know of "Gamer" from the line "Gamer has confirmed launch for Camilla" in mission 5 of Ace Combat Infinity. Originally, we thought Camilla was the name of the Butterfly Master and that Gamer was another entity confirming her launch. However, we recently found out that "Camilla" was just a mistranslation of "Carmilla", referring to the QFA-44 Carmilla, not the Butterfly Master herself.
I had two Japanese friends translate and help break down the original subtitles:
ゲーマー機カーミラの発艦を確認。
These were their translations of the line in full:
"The gamer has confirmed the Carmilla ship launch."
"Gamer's plane Carmilla confirmed launch."
Here are other important notes and a breakdown from those friends regarding the word "gamer" in relation to the aircraft.
ゲーマー can mean either "gamer" or "the gamer".
機 is used when referring to a machine.
Together as ゲーマー機, it refers to the machine being used/operated by the gamer. They reassured me that it does not refer to a gaming machine.
They are both sure that ゲーマー refers to a person and but are unsure if "gamer" is a proper noun.
カーミラ means Carmilla, the QFA-44's name.
All together as ゲーマー機カーミラ, it refers to a machine called the Carmilla being used/operated by the gamer.
The breakdown and second translation in particular further support that the Butterfly Master and Gamer are the same entity as they refer to the gamer as the QFA-44 operator. Referring to the Butterfly Master as a "gamer" also matches her role and depiction in Infinity.
Assuming that Gamer and the Butterfly Master are the same entity, a more accurate version of the English line would be "The Butterfly Master has confirmed launch for the QFA-44 Carmilla".
With all of this information in mind, please discuss below whether the articles "Butterfly Master" and "Gamer" should be merged.
