The USEA Allied Forces 37th Air Force 18th Fighter Wing 1st Squadron "Scarface", also known as the Scarface Special Tactical Fighter Squadron, is a mercenary squadron that became a pivotal point in the Kalugan Terrorist Crisis & the 1998 Usean Revolt, both of which occurred in Kaluga, part of the Union of Yuktobanian Republics, and the entirety of the Usean Continent, respectively.

History

Air Combat (1995)
Edit
Banded together from all around the globe, this force was originally composed of some of the best Mercenary fighter pilots of their time, who were hired to free the Republic of Kaluga, part of the Union of Yuktobanian Republics, from an unknown terrorist group.
They were shrouded in mystery for the most part, however their efforts against the terrorist organization were more than just beneficial. They waged through many important battles, pushing back the terrorists territory by territory eventually cornering them in their own HQ, the Island Fortress, where they were defeated. As a last shot at victory, the enemy launched their confidential prototype weapon, the Flying Fortress. After a lengthy fight, the airborne fortress was brought down by the Mercenary Scarface Force.
Not much is known about their fate after the 1995 conflict, however it is believed that the squadron has eventually evolved into the Scarface Special Tactical Fighter Squadron (STFS), a special elite squadron under Usean control, and that their unnamed leader was later also believed to be Scarface One, the STFS flight lead in 1998.

Ace Combat 2 - 1998
Edit
Widely believed to be the Mercenary Scarface Force back in 1995, the elite combination of Aces were once again called in to oppose the military forces responsible for a silent coup d'état to overthrow the USEAN government, taking advantage of the chaotic situation caused by the predicted planet fall of the Ulysses 1994XF04 Asteroid.
Now under the name of the Special Tactical Fighter Squadron, STFS for short, they were able to push back the rebel forces across Usea with the assistance of the Usean military until they finally located the rebels' HQ inNorth Point. After a lengthy and exhausting battle against SLBMs and daunting enemy units, including but not limited to the ZOE Commander in the experimental Advanced Defense Fighter 01 FALKEN, Scarface 1 enters the enemy fortress to destroy it from the inside, thus marking the end of the Rebel threat.
The STFS is compromised of numerous pilots, however only few select ones played truly fundamental roles in ending the conflict. Their leader, Scarface One, believed to be the very same leader of the former Mercenary Scarface Force of '95, is STFS' most vital asset. Not much is known about this pilot's true identity or where he stands after the end of the 1998 events.

Speculation
Edit
It is speculated that both Slash and Nagase made appearances in Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies during the 2004 Usea/Erusea conflict, where Slash appears to be flying over and patrolling the Stonehenge Turret Network's railguns, and Nagase appears on board of a damaged Air Ixiom flight during Operation Noah's Ark. In addition, another pilot named Kei Nagase, also with callsign Edge, appears in Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War (during the Circum-Pacific War) as a member of the legendary Razgriz Squadron. However, as this Kei Nagase was merely a trainee in 2010, 12 years after the Usean Rebellion, it cannot be the same Nagase. It is however unknown whether all characters are actually the same person or merely a coincidental similarity in names (or if it is a running gag by Namco.) There are also speculations that Kei Nagase might be the sister of Reiko Nagase, a character in the Ridge Racer series that supposedly takes place in the same "reality" as the Ace Combat series.
It is confirmed from a newscast, however, that both pilots ultimately joined the Ouroboros terrorist group in 2040 during the peak of the Corporation War.
