This page documents a policy for Acepedia.
It describes a standard that all editors should normally follow.
Feedback, suggestions, or concerns should be addressed on the talk page. Any changes should reflect consensus.

A spoiler is a piece of information that reveals specific plot points about a narrative work. Having a spoiler revealed before experiencing the work in full may degrade the experience.

Over the years, Acepedia has adopted a loose, unofficial spoiler policy. Users would mark spoilers at their own discretion related to newer games (mostly Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and Ace Combat Infinity), while leaving spoilers related to older games unmarked.

During the pre-release marketing cycle for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, in September 2018, the community reached a consensus to enact an official spoiler policy.

Marking Templates

To mark an entire article as containing spoilers, Template:Spoiler should be used at the top of the page. On desktop, this will hide the article from viewing until a reader clicks on a button. On mobile, this will show a large warning at the top of the article, below the infobox. However, because this solution requires JavaScript and takes a certain amount of time to load, no spoilers should be present in the introduction area. This includes any quote templates, hatnotes, or infoboxes.

To mark a section of an article as containing spoilers, Template:SpoilerSectionStart should be used at the top of the section, and Template:SpoilerSectionEnd should be used at the end. No other guidelines are necessary, since any sections past the introduction will take long enough to load that users should not accidentally view any spoilers.

What Spoilers to Mark

All information related to the Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown story missions released in or after August 2018 must be marked as a spoiler. This includes all Campaign Missions (except Campaign Mission 03) and all VR Missions (except VR Mission 01). Certain exceptions may apply at the administrators' discretion.

This information must remain marked as spoilers until April 1, 2019, two months after the release of Ace Combat 7 on Steam.

What Spoilers Not to Mark

Everything else on the wiki must remain unmarked. This covers all information from every game except Ace Combat 7, as well as non-story information from Ace Combat 7.
