The USEA Unified Air Force 26th Air Force 1st Fighter Wing 1st Squadron "Albireo", is an elite fighter squadron featured in Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy. Formerly a part of the Free Erusea Air Force, they were legendary as the premier Ace Squadron on the USEAN continent and serves as the final Ace Squadron faced in the game if Scarface Squadron joins "Operation Bellisima". They are encountered in Mission 20: Final Countdown in 3 Su-47 Berkuts and 1 PAK-FA.

History Edit

Nothing much is known about Albireo Squadron, however, there are things that can be inferred about this unit of the FEAF by their lead pilot Edgar Grint. According to his records, he has been a decorated veteran ace who has served in nearly every operation of conflict seen and is sincere and respectable to both his wingmen and his opponents alike. When flying into the battlefield to face Phoenix and Scarface 2, he can be overheard having a chess match verbally with one of his wingmen casually (and winning it) before greeting Phoenix with respect before engaging him.

When he finally does engage him, he and his unit show perfect coordination and near unpredictability with their three main moves, named after chess pieces: "Knight", "Rook", and "Bishop". Such a casual demeanor and yet a cool and precise eye for battle reflect's his entire unit as earning the name of an elite Erusean Squadron.

In Mission 20: Final Countdown, The Allied Forces are making the last push towards the Rebel Capitol at Saint Ark, North Point. To make their last stand, the rebel forces have amassed their remaining forces at Snider's Top in the Northern Hemisphere of USEA to block the allied advance. However, troubling news has arrived that Erusea's Albireo Squadron has went missing and may have defected to the Rebel Forces.

The battle itself turns fierce as Phoenix and Scarface 2 arrive to destroy the enemy fleet. At first it appeared that this small naval force was being protected by a small number of conventional fighters, but when Scarface Squadron cleared the skies of the fighters, the true defenders of the fleet emerged: 4 stolen prototype bombers known as the XB-10. After finally bringing the XB-10's down along with the rest of the Rebel fleet, Albireo Squadron finally arrives to challenge Scarface Squadron.

Their three favorite moves: Knight, Bishop, and Rook were explanatory but ruthless if caught off guard. Knight involved them splitting up for a pincer move that made it appear to be L shaped like how a knight moves, Bishop involved a step diagonal dive attack before swarming the opponent, and Rook formation likewise involved them going in a file like formation and moving straight across like a Rook in Chess. However, they would consistently switch which maneuver would be used, making the decision on how to evade difficult. However, Phoenix and Scarface 2 eventually discovered when to time their counterattacks and one by one, the legendary Albireo's wings were clipped with their defeat.

• Their namesake Albireo, is the fifth brightest star of the constellation Beta Cygni, a Binary Star system, and is located in the "nose" part of the Cygnus Constellation. Cygni means Swan in Latin.
