"I respectfully ask to be called "Chopper," Sir. I'm afraid I may not be able to respond to any other moniker."
Alvin H. Davenport to Jack Bartlett[1]

Callsigns (also referred to as TAC names) are identifiers unique to a unit or a person. If someone has a callsign, they are almost always referred to by that callsign rather than their own name.

Callsigns are not to be confused with squadron positions. For example, Hans Grimm held his personal callsign, "Archer", while flying as both Wardog 4 and Razgriz 4.

Trivia[]

  • It has not been confirmed what "TAC" stands for in "TAC name". The most likely possibility is "tactical name".
