[edit] Description
Designed to replace the F-4 Phantom II, the F-14A Aircraft is the basic platform of the F-14 series. The F-14A Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, variable-sweep wing, two-place fighter designed to attack and destroy enemy aircraft at night and in all weather conditions. The F-14 can track up to 24 targets simultaneously with its AWG-9 advanced weapons control system and attack six with Phoenix AIM-54A missiles, while continuing to scan the airspace. The plane can also works in some way as a armed mini-AWACS,supported by the AWG-9's superior radar range, exceeding even more than the Air Force's F-22A Raptor.Combined with the Phoenix missile,it can track targets at extremely long range and destroy them with its Phoenix missile before they can even track the Tomcat itself. This is the U.S Navy's fleet defense theory, doctrine and tactics and one of the reason why the Iranians decided to adopt the plane instead of newer the F-15C Eagle. Armament also includes a mix of other air intercept missiles and bombs and an internal 20-mm Vulcan Gatling-type gun fitted on the left side. The Tomcat is a 2-seat, twin-engine fighter with twin tails and variable-geometry wings.
The F-14A was introduced in the mid-1970s. The radar is a pulse-Doppler, multi-mode radar with a designed capability to track 24 targets at the same time while simultaneously devising and executing fire control solutions for 6 targets. Designed in the 1960's and one of the oldest air-to-air radar systems, the AWG-9 is still highly potent and new software will increase its capabilities for the 21st century. As of 2006, the F-14A is no longer in use with the U.S. Navy, although it is still in use by the Iranian Air Force in limited numbers.
The BAE SYSTEM,the British corporation, was producing the F-14A Tomcat for British Royal Navy to accelerate the speed of Tomcat. The British Royal Navy F-14A Tomcat was armed with Rafael Shafrir II and used during war in pacific campaign against Confederate State Communist Of America, Belkan war, and Circum Pacific war.
