The F-35B Lightning II is a V/STOL stealth fighter manufactured by Lockheed Martin, first unveiled in December 2007, and the second aircraft of the F-35 Lightning II line. As a result of its vertical takeoff/landing capabilities, it has a higher gross weight than the -A and -C models, resulting in a loss of fuel and weapons capacity.

The British Royal Air Force has plans to replace its aging GR7/9A Harrier fleet with the F-35B. The United States Marine Corps plans to purchase 340 Lightning IIs to replace its current F/A-18 and AV-8B Harrier II fleets for the attack and fighter roles. The USMC is also currently researching a possible electronic warfare variation of the F-35B aiming to replace the EA-6B Prowler.

Ace Combat: Assault HorizonEdit

The F-35B is one of the new fighters introduced in Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, and is operated by the 108th Task Force. It is armed with a belly-mounted GAU-22 Equalizer machine gun for close combat and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. Due to its size, it is quick and highly maneuverable.
