The C-5 Galaxy is a large military transport aircraft used to airlift military cargo as well as ground troops. It has regularly appeared in the series as an unplayable aircraft.

History[]

Strangereal[]

The Skully Islands insurrectionary forces made use of C-5 Galaxies as part of their aerial roster during the 1995 Skully Islands insurrection.[1]
The mercenary unit Scarface Squadron, and their leader, Phoenix, were deployed on a mission to intercept a flight of insurrectionist C-5s as part of an evaluation of their effectiveness by the FCU. [2]

During the Usean coup d'état, the Usean Allied Forces utilized a C-5, callsign Dryman, to transport a VIP across the Lambert Mountains. [3]

During Operation Katina, Free Erusea utilized the C-5 as one of their primary transport aircraft.[4]

The C-5 Galaxy was used by both the Osean Air Defense Force and Yuktobanian Air Force during the Circum-Pacific War. The most notable C-5 during this period was Osea's Mother Goose One, which was used to secretly transport Osea's president Vincent Harling to North Point.[5] They were also used during Yuktobania's terrorist attack on Apito International Airport, in which C-5s were used to transport tanks and anti-aircraft vehicles to attack the airport.[6]

During the Aurelian War, the C-5 was utilized by Leasath Air Force, some of which were parked at Puna Base when Gryphus Squadron attacked the base.[7]

Joint Assault Universe[]

The Valahia operated a single C-5, callsign Gizmo, during the Valahia Crisis.[8]

Ace Combat 2[]

The C-5 Galaxy is initially featured in mission #5, "Greased Lightning", where a single one is parked at the enemy base in the end of the level, which will lead the player to the mission "Bear Tracks" if it is destroyed, and later again in #14B, "Dark Star", where a formation of five Galaxies appears as the mission target.

Air Combat[]

The C-5 Galaxy is the game's only transport aircraft. It is first featured in "Destroy Enemy Supply Lines", where a squadron of four transports is featured as the main targets, and a single aircraft is later seen in "Fighter Superiority". The aircraft is prominently featured in the mission "VIP Recovery Mission", where the player must escort a government C-5 as it lands in a mountain airfield to extricate a vital officer.

Trivia[]

  • The C-5s in Operation Katina possess an unusually high damage threshold, being able to take sustained gunfire and repeated missile impacts before suffering any considerable damage. They are tied with the rockbed in Closure from main game as the most damage-resilient targets in the Ace Combat series. However, a single TLS touch from an ADF-01 FALKEN is sufficient enough to shoot it out of the sky.
  • The Yuktobanian Air Force C-5s are painted with the American European One camouflage, which was used during the Cold War on C-5 planes operating in Europe as well as on some A-10 Thunderbolt IIs before Operation: Desert Storm.
  • In Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, all airborne C-5s within the campaign are simply labeled as "C-5", but any landed C-5s, as well as all C-5s within the Arcade Mode are labeled as "C-5B", despite possessing exactly the same model. A similar quirk occurs with the B-52 between Arcade Mode and Campaign.
