The Fuel Air Explosion Bomb (abbreviated FAEB) is an air-to-ground weapon featured in most Ace Combat games from Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies onwards. As evidenced by its name, it is a thermobaric weapon that spreads a highly flammable fuel over the impact area, which is ignited in a massive fireball upon impact.
Ace Combat 04: Shattered SkiesEdit
The FAEB is available exclusively to the F-15 ACTIVE for $286,000. The weapon is useful for taking out entire clusters of lightly armored targets, such as AA guns and tanks, since ground targets are present in larger groups than in future games. It's usefulness, however, is offset by the fact that the F-15 ACTIVE is limited to 8 FAEBs.
Ace Combat 5: The Unsung WarEdit
It is exclusive to the YA-10B, which carries 14 bombs.
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan WarEdit
- ADF-01 FALKEN: x08 bombs, $206,400.
- A-10A Thunderbolt II: x10 bombs, $19,400.
- X-29A: x04 bombs, $42,000.
- F-15S/MTD: x08 bombs. Comes with aircraft.
- Su-37 Terminator: x08 bombs.
Ace Combat 6: Fires of LiberationEdit
The FAEB in AC6 returns once again bound to a single aircraft, the A-10A.
The FAEB has been further strengthened in this game, carrying both a massive explosion and a massive blast radius that can destroy targets in a wide area. Depending on the A-10 used, it can carry the default 25 rounds, 40 rounds with the Distant Thunder variant, or a massive 60 rounds with the Idolmaster SP variant. The weapon can destroy normal targets with one bomb, but some targets like tanks may take two bombs. It is potent not only on ground targets, but is also useful for destroying the Aigaion, Gyges and Kottos aerial battleships, dealing devastating damage if used properly. Overall, this iteration of the FAEB is superior to all the others in the entire series, due to the amount of ammo that can be carried depending on what aircraft can be used and the performance of the weapon in question.
Ace Combat X: Skies of DeceptionEdit
The Fuel-Air Explosive Bomb is first made available with the A-10A Thunderbolt II, which carries 10 bombs for $8,400. It is also one of the weapons compatible with the ADF-01 the YR-302 Fregata, the Su-37 Terminator and X-29A. It's large blast radius helps in missions heavy with ground targets, such as "Striking Point" and "Break In".
Ace Combat: Joint AssaultEdit
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon LegacyEdit
The FAEB in Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy is similiar to its Joint Assault and Skies of Deception variants, though the aircraft that can use it has changed somewhat. The A6M5 Zero can use it, in addition to the Hellcat, A-10A and Su-37.
