The Osean Federation is an Strangereal country, the largest in the continent of Osea and one of the main superpowers of the world.

History

20th century

Between 1905 and 1910, Osea battled with Belka in what would become known as the Osean War, the first in a series of historical conflicts between the two nations. Tensions led to a second war in the 1940s, ending with Osea losing an undetermined portion of its northern territory to Belka. Decades later, in the eighties, it saw itself involved in a Cold War with the Union of Yuktobanian Republics, birthing an arms race that caused the Osean military to develop atmospheric weapon systems under the Strategic Defense Initiative to counter Yuktobanian ballistic missiles, including the Strategic Orbital Linear Gun.[1]

During the Cold War, the Federation secretly backed separatist movements in Belka in the prelude to the 1988 federal law review motivated by its economic recession, believing that underground resources existed in the newly created state of Ustio. As the Belkan government attempted to sell its own lands to surrounding countries to save their economy, it formed a joint corporation between both countries overseeing the Five Great Lakes region on September 1991, which rapidly collapsed after a corruption scandal revealed intentional underfunding and falsified financial reports from Osea.[2][3]

Belkan War

When Waldemarr Rald and the Fatherland and Workers Party gained control of the Belkan government after the December 1991 emergency election, the waves of nationalism that swept the country saw a widespread rise of anti-Osean sentiments, along with hostilities against Ustio.[3] The discovery of natural resources in Area B7R on March 1995 caused Rald to declare war on Osea and its former territories, conquering large portions of Osean territory west of the Great Lakes. The Federation formed the Allied Forces with the Ustian armed forces and repelled the Belkan Army on April 1995 through Offensive Campaign No. 4101, allowing them to send the Third Fleet of the Osean Navy north of Futuro Canal and partake in the Ustio front.[4]

Under a treaty of non-aggression by the Assembly of Nations, Osean troops collaborated with Ustio to pierce through the Hydrian Line and invade South Belka, before nullifying the treaty on May 28 after the destruction of the Excalibur missile interceptor system. The surrender and disarmament of the Belkan south led it to launch a campaign against the country's weapons industry as a prelude to the invasion of Nord Belka. On June 3, the first Allied attacks on the north led to the "Seven Pillars of Belka" catastrophe at the Waldreich Mountains, causing the cessation of hostilities between both sides.[4]

Two weeks after the disaster at Waldreich, Rald and the Allied Forces agreed to sign the formal surrender of Belka at the city of Lumen, on the Belkan side of the Great Lakes. The Treaty of Lumen declared the dissolution of the Belkan armed forces and the entrusting of South Belka to Osea as the seventh state of North Osea, as well as the acquisition of the mineral resources that were the cause of the war by the former Allies. The South Belkan Munitions Factory, a core Belkan arms manufacturer, became Gründer Industries and allowed itself to become Osean property as part of the deal.[2]

In 1996, the Osean president signed a bilateral peace treaty with Yuktobania that ended the Cold War. The signing caused the survivors of the Osean Air Force's Wizard Squadron to plot his assassination, but were killed or arrested by Osean special forces.[4][2]

Modern times

Following the signing of the 1996 treaty, Osea began a rapprochement process with Yuktobania, and focused early during the post-Belkan War years on the aftermath of the 1994XF04 Ulysses asteroid. Scientists and specialists from the two countries collaborated to deal with the fragments lingering on orbit, leading to the Arkbird spaceship being used to clear the atmosphere shortly after Ulysses' impact. Both nations formulated a plan to develop an international space station in the 2000s, being aided by Verusa and the Federation of Central Usea.[1]

On 2004, Vincent Harling was elected as the 48th President of the Osean Federation under the terms of the Yuktobanian Peace Treaty, holding an international conference with the "G7" group of nations onboard the Arkbird in August of 2008. The event saw the signing of various treaties against the proliferation of nuclear weapons with Yuktobania and other nations, including START II, the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. After the end of his mandate, the 2008-2009 elections caused Harling to be re-elected for a second term as President.[1]

Circum-Pacific War

Between the Arkbird summit and 2010, the government was infiltrated by the Belkan Gray Men to spark a second cold war as revenge for the division of Belka, inciting nationalism against the Belkan-backed military regime that replaced Seryozha Nikanor as the Yuktobanian head of state. A series of airspace intrusion incidents by Yuktobanian Air Force aircraft took place before the regime declared war on Osea in September 27 2010, triggering the Circum-Pacific War. Harling's second in command, the patriotic Vice President Appelrouth, assumed control of the Osean armed forces after his kidnapping by the Gray Men in October, sanctioning a full invasion of Yuktobania after the sinking of the Scinfaxi submarine.[5]

The invasion of Yuktobania saw a rapid advance by the Osean Army, who were backed by the Wardog Squadron for the duration of the war. Shortly before the siege of Cinigrad, Wardog defected after an assassination attempt by the Gray Men and launched a clandestine campaign against the Gray Men from the OFS Kestrel carrier, becoming the Razgriz Squadron after rescuing Harling from the Waldreich Mountains. After their liberation, Harling and Nikanor traveled to Osea and ordered the immediate cessation of fighting in an emergency conference at Oured. On New Year's Eve, the Razgriz and soldiers from both countries besieged Gründer Industries' headquarters in Sudentor to halt the deployment of the SOLG against Osea, destroying its control systems inside the underground tunnel built by the company beneath Waldreich.[5]

On December 31, the Razgriz disappeared after intercepting the SOLG as it prepared to collide against Oured. The circumstances behind the war were kept in secret by the Osean government, who then proceeded to forcibly absorb Gründer. On 2014, Harling announced at a conference that all information pertaining to the war would be released to the public in 2020.[5]

Political structure

One of the largest nations of the Osean continent, the Osean Federation is a democratic federal state governed by a popularly elected president who assumes their position for a four-year term, following the political system of the United States. The workplace of the president is Bright Hill, built on the capital of Oured. The country is formed by six administrative regions - Burton, Glennon, Stockham, Lindsey, Rinehart and Eversole, the last of which serves as the capital district of the country.[6] The government of the country, similar to the US, includes roles such as Foreign Minister and Vice-President. Ministries include the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Defense.[7]

Similar to Yuktobania, the territory of the country spans a large portion of west Osea and both hemispheres, and is the largest country in the world. Law enforcement is carried out by local police departments in each city, above which stand the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Central Intelligence Agency under the federal government. A major body responsible for space development is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which carried out the Liberty Seven Project after 1995.[7]

Armed forces

The armed forces of Osea, commonly known as the Osean Army, are formed by the Air Force, the Navy and the Army, the second of which contains its own Marine Corps. The main branches of the military deviate from traditional standards by adopting a "Defense Force" title, employed after the 1996 treaty with Yuktobania and retained into the 21st century. However, such name is often ignored in most situations, as each branch is regularly referred to by their original name by other nations, the media and the public.[5]
