The Pugachev's Cobra is a flight maneuver commonly associated with the Su-27 Flanker aircraft family, and is a prime example of aircraft supermaneuverability. It is named so after Viktor Pugachyov (also romanized as Pugachev), a test pilot for the Sukhoi OKB who first performed the maneuver during the Paris Le Bourget airshow in 1989.

Ace CombatEdit

In gameplay, the Pugachev's Cobra is commonly employed by Sukhoi-flying hostiles, including certain exceptions.

Ace Combat 2Edit

In Ace Combat 2 the Cobra is used by many of the enemy ace pilots who operate the Su-37.

Ace Combat 04: Shattered SkiesEdit

The Pugachev's Cobra's most famous iteration, it is famously used by the Yellow Squadron. During the player's first Yellow encounter in Lifeline, the enemy aircraft will perform a Pugachev to escape from the player should they chase a Terminator too closely.

Ace Combat: Assault HorizonEdit

The Cobra is a maneuver usable by both the player and AI in Assault Horizon, as a counter-maneuver that can be used to escape a pursuing aircraft in Dogfight Mode. The player-controlled aircraft capable of performing the Cobra are:

• F-22A Raptor
• PAK FA
• YF-23A Black Widow II
• Su-47 Berkut
• Su-35S Flanker-E
• Su-37 Terminator
• Su-33 Flanker-D
• CFA-44 Nosferatu

However, the restrictions do not apply to the AI, and they can be seen performing the maneuver in other aircraft.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon LegacyEdit

The Pugachev's Cobra is used by both the player and enemy aircraft as an evasive move. In Assault Horizon Legacy, the Cobra is used as an Attack Maneuver when an enemy aircraft is behind the player, allowing the player to quickly get behind an enemy and attack. Unlike Assault Horizon, any aircraft is capable of performing the Cobra.
