- "Heads up, they can fight as soon as they're airborne."
- ― ISAF pilot during Operation Woodpecker[1]
The AV-8B Harrier II is a vertical take-off and landing aircraft that has appeared regularly as an enemy unit in the Ace Combat series.
The AV-8B has never been playable. Instead, the AV-8B Harrier II plus has been used for player control in Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and Ace Combat Infinity.
History[]
Strangereal[]
The Skully Islands insurrection in 1995 is the earliest-known use of AV-8Bs. The rebels used them as part of their aerial forces against the Federation of Central Usea.[2][3] The more-organized Usean Rebel Forces operated AV-8Bs as well during the 1998 Usean coup d'état.[4][5][6]
The former Federal Republic of Erusea deployed AV-8Bs to specialized VTOL bases in Istas Fortress after capturing the area in the Continental War. They were used against the ISAF Air Force when they weakened Erusea's ground defenses at the fortress.[1]
The Yuktobanian underwater carrier, Scinfaxi, utilized AV-8Bs and F-35Cs for their VTOL capabilities since the submarine did not have a runway. During the Circum-Pacific War, they engaged the 3rd Osean Naval Fleet[7] as well as Wardog Squadron by launching from the Scinfaxi once it was in battle range.[8] Yuktobania also used AV-8Bs to defend their ammunition depot in the Duga region.[9]
Estovakia utilized AV-8Bs to ambush Warlock Separate Battalion as they made their assault on Ragno Fortress. This was the only known deployment of Harriers during the Emmeria-Estovakia War.[10]
During the Aurelian War, the Leasath Air Force deployed AV-8Bs to defend the Kalana Steppes and the Nevera Jammer from Aurelian forces.[11][12]
Joint Assault universe[]
The Valahia is only known to have used one AV-8B, for their ace "Sphinx". It was shot down during a deployment in Egypt.[13]

Trivia[]
- In Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, the model used for the AV-8B Harrier II more closely resembles the Sea Harrier FA.2. However, the Perfect Guide confirms that the in-game's aircraft designation is still AV-8.[14]
