"Do you wonder what it means to be a prisoner here? Everything is rotten to the core."
Avril Mead[1]

Spare Squadron, officially the 444th Fighter Squadron, is a penal military unit in the Osean Air Defense Force. The unit is comprised of Osean military personnel who have committed some form of crime. Members of this squadron are referred to as prisoners and are considered expendable by the Osean Defense Forces.[1]

The squadron had no standardized aircraft, but all planes were decorated with 'sin lines' on the tails in the form of white dashes blocking out previous unit decals. The number of marks depended on the severity of the crime committed.[1]

Spare Squadron is based at the 444th Air Base in Zapland, Usea.[2]

History

Spare Squadron was deployed during the Lighthouse War, the extent of which is currently unknown.

On July 4, 2019, Spare Squadron was dispatched to destroy three Erusean military bases in the desert region of Roca Roja.[3]

Eight days later, the squadron participated in Operation Two Pairs. During the operation, Spare escorted allied squadrons Cyclops and Strider, allowing them to escape the Yinshi Valley.[4]
