The Su-37 Terminator is a 4.5th-generation post-Soviet prototype fighter developed by Sukhoi.

History

Strangereal

Terminators were first known to be deployed by Belka during the Belkan War, where some were manned by a handful of ace pilots during the conflict.[1] The most famous were Orbert Jager and Rainer Altman of the 23rd Tactical Fighter Squadron Gelb, who were defeated by the Galm Team during the liberation of Directus after establishing Belkan dominance in the southern front.[2]

During the Usean Continental War, Terminators were used in limited numbers by the Usean Rebel Forces.[3] One of their aces, callsign "Ricochet", used the aircraft.[4]

During the Second Usean Continental War, Terminators were famously flown by the 156th Tactical Fighter Wing, who used their skill in conjunction with its advanced technologies to achieve deadly results through the course of the war until their destruction in the siege of Farbanti.[5] A batch of unused Terminators were obtained by the Yellow replacement pilots that defended Megalith at the end of the conflict, who homaged their precursors by painting their jets in Yellow colors.[6]

During the Aurelian War, Su-37s were deployed by the Leasath Air Force throughout the conflict.[7][8] The most notable unit was the air force's elite Chimera Squadron.[8]

Joint Assault universe

Antares One[9] and Tolya Kiriakov[10] were known to have used the aircraft. Antares used it in the aftermath of the Golden Axe Plan.[9]

Assault Horizon universe

During the New Russian Federation uprising, the Su-37 was developed by Sukhoi after the birth of the Russian Federation as a multipurpose, all-weather interceptor that built on the existing capabilities of the Su-27 Flanker. It proved successful enough to warrant the creation of an export model that replaced the Su-30, the Su-37K.[11]

Infinity universe

Terminators were available for use by UNF pilots during Operation Eternal Liberation. They were also used by the USEA Federation during that period.[12]

Game analysis

Ace Combat Infinity

"This all-weather multipurpose fighter was developed to increase the aerial combat abilities of the Su-27. It is the first aircraft within the Flanker series to incorporate 2DCD thrust-vectoring nozzles resulting in increased turning performance. The addition of canard wings also provide increased stability. In 1996, the aircraft performed the very first Kulbit maneuver at an air show capturing the attention of people across the world. This aircraft is commonly known as the "Terminator"."

Trivia

  • The appearance of the aircraft remains the same in the series except in Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and Ace Combat Infinity, which replaced the Sorbtsiya ECM pods with wingtip missile launch rails.
  • The Su-37's NATO reporting name used throughout the Ace Combat series, "Terminator", is not the same as the NATO actually uses for it ("Flanker-F"). It is possible that Strangereal uses a different naming convention, but that wouldn't explain why the plane is still referred as "Terminator" in games set on Earth.
    • The alternate possibility is that the moniker is directly adopted from Sukhoi and refers to the model's vastly improved electronics. A quick sweep with Yandex.ru searcher indicates that this moniker is universally accepted, yet no explantion is ever given. The current "Terminator" of the Russian Armed forces is the Object 199/BMPT "Ramka".
  • The Su-37 model used in Assault Horizon has the elevators and nozzles a bit swept down by default. It is unknown if this is a glitch or it was intentional.
  • In some of the installments, one can even attempt to pull a rudimentary Cobra by pulling the nose up while decelerating to near-stall speeds; instead of falling towards the ground, it remains in position for a while.
