This blog discusses changes in Wikia's compatibility concerning certain internet browsers. These changes are set to be effective immediately by Wikia.
Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox
If you are using Chrome or Firefox, you should be updating it all of the time anyway. Nothing is changing much in their compatibility with Wikia, but the latest versions (as of this blog post) are Chrome 31 and Firefox 25. If you have either of these browsers, update them to these latest versions.
Recently, Opera has updated to a new rendering engine that will greatly affect the way it displays certain pages. As a result, Opera users should update their browser to AT LEAST VERSION 15. The current version of Opera, as of this blog post, is Opera 17 (Opera Next, their beta program, is currently at 18).
This is where things get a little bit complicated (because it's Apple we're talking about here). Safari will only be supported in versions 6 and above. This means that OS X will only be supported in versions 10.7 "Lion", 10.8 "Mountain Lion", or 10.9 "Mavericks". Update your OS X to one of these versions to continue receiving support for your version of Safari.
And this is where things get a little more complicated. Internet Explorer 8 has not been supported for a while, but Internet Explorer 9 will no longer be supported either. This means that Windows Vista will not be supported either. So, the list of changes are:
- If you are using Windows XP, it's time to update to at least Windows 7.
- If you are using Windows Vista, it's about time you actually downloaded Chrome or Firefox. Or, updated to at least Windows 7.
- If you are using Windows 7, update to the newly-released Internet Explorer 11.
- If you are using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, you're good.
